Indoor Sand and Water Provision

An effective ‘ Sand and Water Area’ would include many features. This should be:

  • Positioned in a place which takes into account Health and Safety aspects
  • Attractive, inviting and suitably resourced
  • Contain a range of continuous provision which is well-labelled and easily accessible for all children
  • Offer space near it for the children to have room to expand and explore
  • Be enhanced with provision such as small world objects, images around themes and sand and water books
  • Be linked to investigations, where appropriate
  • Different outdoors to indoors. Outdoors presents opportunities to work at a larger scale and make more mess
  • Regularly enhanced according to interests, possible themes and on-going observations .
