Outdoor Baby
Environments
A quality environment for babies
will have many characteristics. Here are some featured within
Lincolnshire Settings. It should have:
- A ‘Home from Home’ environment. This may
include a garden, messy play area, sleeping area, changing area and
eating/ kitchen area
- Spaces which are clean but have the capacity
to become messy
- Resources which may imitate home. For
example, comfy chairs to rest on with his/her key person
- A safe and secure environment. This includes
ensuring appropriate room temperatures, ventilation,
boundaries, natural light and displaying photographs of
families
- Spaces for routine activities such as snack
time and exploratory play
- Stimulating resources that cater for all of
the senses
- A quiet, comfortable and safe environment to
sleep and rest
- Space available for parents and carers to
access
- Appropriately sized furniture which is safe
for babies to move around
- A variety of textures, levels and
surfaces
- Regular access to the outdoor learning
environment
- Provision enhanced according to children’s
developmental needs, interests and on-going observations.
