Types of Moderation Activities
Individual
moderation within the setting - this will take place at
least once every four years, as part of a cycle of moderation. The
moderator will visit the setting and take part in a joint
observation alongside the lead practitioner, then take part in
moderation activities within the setting. The moderator will select
the three children to be moderated from the data printout of the
cohort.
Cluster moderation meeting-
these are held
once a year. Any settings not receiving an individual moderation
visit will be expected to attend a cluster moderation meeting.
These meetings take place in local networks across the county, and
consist of agreement trialling and moderation activities. The lead
practitioner of the setting will be asked to attend this
meeting.
Interim moderation- this
will take place in schools identified by the local
authority. It will consist of a visit to the setting by the
moderator. The moderator will then take part in a join observation
alongside the lead practitioner and take part in moderation
activities within the setting. Interim moderation is targeted
intervention for specific schools halfway through the year.
As seen from the
timeline overview there are a
variety of ways of supporting settings with the implementation of
the EYFS Profile throughout the year to ensure that moderation is
not just a one off event but part of an effective pedagogy to
support effective practice within Lincolnshire.
